The Dragons returned to winning ways with a 1-0 win over Baglan Dragons on Friday night under the lights at the USW Sport Park.

The goal came early on, as Jack Jones won the ball in the midfield before releasing Marsh down the line, who drilled a cross to striker Dan Griffiths, who finished off the move to give his side the lead.

Chances were hard to come by in the first half, the visitors went close on only a couple of occasions. One of which came from a Jack Fleming run down the line, who then played a ball across to Artem Legavec outside the box. The winger cut in, but his shot was easy enough for goalkeeper Cameron Clarke to deal with.

There was more action in the second half and just six minutes into the half, Pontypridd went close to doubling the advantage. A free kick in the corner of the pitch was whipped into the box by Jamie Veale, and was met by Griffiths, whose header was cleared off the line by Daniel Mason.

Baglan themselves had a great chance to level the game. Craig Wilcox crossed the ball in towards Jonathan Davies, whose glanced header was narrowly wide of the left post.

The visitors continued to apply the pressure around the hour mark, with a good run of chances. Fleming unleashed a long throw into the box, which was headed away as far as Jordan Evans. His shot was saved well by Clarke which resulted in a corner, although nothing came from that.

Just ten minutes later Baglan went close once more with a ball up to Jordan Evans, who drove towards the goal. Centre half Keston Davies got a foot on the ball to stop the run, although the ball bounced favourably for Evans who was in a foot race with Luke Cummings. Clarke attempted to claim the ball, but Evans got their first, however the ‘keeper managed to recover well and smother the ball to deny an equaliser.

A resilient defensive performance from the Pontypridd backline continued, where they made block after block. One coming on the left hand side with Legavec, who cut in and his attempt was hit into a sea of white shirts and was cleared.

A solid performance from the home side to gain all three points. The Dragons travel West next weekend to face Afan Lido in league action.

Attendance: 300
