Our first home game of the 2026/27 season turned into a brilliant encounter as the Dragons fought back from two goals down to secure a dramatic late win against Pontardawe Town FC.
Both sides came into the game on three points after winning their respective opening day fixtures - scoring three goals apiece - setting the stage for an exciting contest at USW Sport Park.
The match started at a frantic pace, with the woodwork hit twice in the opening 15 minutes. Pontardawe’s Taylor Evans saw his strike tipped onto the post first, before a long throw from the Dragons sparked a goalmouth scramble at the other end that struck the outside of the upright.
As the half progressed, United began to dominate possession and create chances, and they could have been ahead were it not for some heroic goalkeeping from Pontardawe’s Isaac Dudding.
The visitors were content to soak up pressure and threaten on the counter-attack, creating a few half-chances of their own. They broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute when a brilliant long ball over the backline found Farrell-Alli, who took it in his stride and slotted it through Ed King's legs to put the away side ahead.
Things went from bad to worse for United just four minutes later. Following some fine work on the right wing by Jesse Meacock, Taylor Evans struck in the 36th minute to double Pontardawe's advantage.
However, the Dragons provided an instant response. In the 38th minute, a dangerous corner tested the keeper under the high ball, falling invitingly for new signing Clayton Farrah, who lashed a fantastic volley into the top corner to get Ponty on the board.
The second half was all Ponty. For the first 20 minutes after the restart, the home side created countless opportunities, with Pontardawe hanging on by a thread through last-ditch defending and stellar goalkeeping.
The equalizer finally arrived in the 67th minute, and it was thoroughly deserved. A long ball found Ethan Edwards, who did brilliantly to engineer space on the edge of the box before drilling a left-footed effort into the top corner, leaving the keeper with no chance.
Just ten minutes later, the comeback was complete. A long ball over the top from Farrah released another new signing, Kofi Rowe. Letting it bounce just inside the box, Rowe still had plenty to do, but he smashed a half-volley into the bottom corner to send the home support wild.
United managed the closing stages expertly to withstand some late Pontardawe pressure, seeing out a thrilling 3-2 victory.
